I took a lesson on how to draw hands.

Step 1 - A loose, rough sketch to show the "movement" of the hand, the bends at the joints, the direction, the intention.
Step 2 - Loosely draw in cylinders, boxes and spheres to show the volume of the hand.
Step 3 & 4 - Use your pencil to "cite" the correct angles and proportions.

Sketching things I saw out the window, trying to focus on drawing negative space. I really need a lesson in proportion drawing. I think that is coming soon.

Another study of negative space. It takes a lot of concentration, especially on something like this where there are so many similar negative spaces. Thanks again to Starbucks for hosting my drawing session!

Two sketches today.

A ripped up envelope with multiple shadows.

I called my stepmom and said "What do you want me to draw a picture of?" She said "A horse". I said "Please make it something that I can find in a Starbucks." :-) So here it is.

The first of my Master Copies. It is part of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo. A free two-hour course I took on "gestures" in art made all the difference in the world in helping me be confident that I could do this drawing.

I was looking at the sketchbook/journal of James Jean. I noticed that he often draws something more than once in a spot. For example, if someone moved during the sketch, he just started drawing them again in the new position.

Today I was drawing a chair at Starbucks and was halfway into it when a woman came and claimed the chair by putting her purse and jacket on it. I followed James Jean's example and continued to draw the chair with the purse and jacket on it.
